Many women may only think about their breast health after hearing news of a breast cancer diagnosis – breast cancer is, after all, the most common type of cancer among women. To treat breast cancer it is important to detect the lump as early as possible. Once you diagnosis your breast and it’s condition it will help you to take the next step. Prevention is always better than cure however. There is increasing evidence of effective lifestyle management that incorporate good wellness practices reducing the risk of (and in some cases curing) a variety of cancers including breast cancer.

Here are few preventative steps:

You Can Control Some Risk Factors

You can’t change your age, personal or family history, including inherited genes and gender, but you can manage other risk factors that contribute to the disease. Maintaining a healthy body weight and following a healthy diet with lots of fruits and veggies to boost your immune system helps keep your body the healthiest it can be. Which means you should quit smoking, limit your alcohol consumption and try to maintain a healthy diet with regular exercise.

Dietary Choice to Prevent Risk

Breast cancer can start in different places, grow in different ways, and require different kinds of treatment. Just as certain cancers respond better to certain treatments, certain cancers respond well to specific foods. Studies have found that the health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids found in some fish might be due to its ability to reduce inflammation, a possible contributing factor for breast cancer.

Many breast cancer treatments are designed to keep estrogen from interacting with breast cancer cells, so eating a high-fiber diet can support this process and accelerate the elimination of estrogen. Beta-carotene, found in vegetables including carrots, has been associated with a lower risk of breast cancer. Scientists speculate that this may be because it interferes with the growth process of cancer cells.
