The Ajyal Film Festival – presented by the Doha Film Institute was held at Katara from the 18th November to 23rd November 2019.
For its 7th edition, the event turned out to be a great success with its red-carpet appearances, jury screenings, panel discussions, community activities and highly acclaimed film screenings.
Significant highlight of the Ajyal Film Festival would be the special red-carpet appearance of Chace Crawford, who is best known for his role of Nate Archibald in the TV series Gossip Girl.
Additionally, it is a proud moment for Qatar to display screenings from Qatari talents as part of the ‘Made In Qatar’ initiative presented by Ooredoo. The films consisted of powerful and dramatic narratives and documentaries. The initiative is inspired by Qatar’s culture and heritage.
This year, Ajyal also brought forward the spotlight on the underground music scene on locally based artists. It was part of the festival’s intimate community gatherings.
Geekdom, a community engagement platform that focuses on pop-culture has returned this year at Ajyal. There were cosplay competitions and interactive sessions regarding the various forms of digital media such as art, film, video games, comic books, animation and television.
The closing ceremony announced the winners of the Jury Competition and Made In Qatar competition. The awards were presented by H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Culture and Sports H E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, and Ooredoo Director CSR, Sponsorship and Media, Moza Al Muhannadi.
