Centro Capital Takes Part In Qatar Diabetes Association Walkathon

Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) organized a walkathon event at Oxygen Park, where members of Centro Capital Doha took part to raise awareness of diabetes. The annual World Diabetes Day is marked on November 14 and the theme is ‘Diabetes – Protect your Family’.

Centro Capital by Rotana participated in the event to increase awareness about the crucial role of exercising and healthy lifestyle choices in preventing and controlling diabetes.

In order to show support on ‘World Diabetes Day’, the participants were dressed in white T- shirts and caps, gathered together to support the fight against diabetes. They represented schools, healthcare facilities, private and public organizations, and several others.

The walkathon also had family activities and booths for diabetes risk assessment measures. The event attracted more than 7,000 people including families, students from schools and other members of various organizations.

According to the International Diabetes Federation, more than 15% of the Qatar’s population aged 20-79 has diabetes.

Kateryna Iazykova, Environment, Health & Safety Coordinator of Centro Capital by Rotana said: “Walking is a very inclusive form of exercise as it is inexpensive and also suitable for most levels of fitness, and helps prevent Type 2 diabetes, as well as control blood sugar and prevent complications in both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.”

“In collaboration with the International Diabetes Federation, the campaign aimed in raising awareness of the risks of Type 2 diabetes and it’s increasing prevalence among people of all age groups in Qatar, especially the youth. We are delighted to be collaborating with International Diabetes Federation again this year for the Walkathon 2019. We thank Centro Capital’s team for their support in the walkathon event which was aligned perfectly with our vision and commitment to a healthier Qatar,” said the Executive Director of Qatar Diabetes Association, Dr. Abdulla Al Hamaq.
