De-Stressing Steps For A Happier Life

In the midst of stressful news breaking out daily, it’s easy to think negative thoughts, be stressed out and get anxious. De-stressing may seem tough, but it’s not as hard as you think.

Here are some steps that will help you de-stress and think positively:

  • Avoid caffeine and nicotine

Try to avoid or reduce your consumption of nicotine and any beverages containing caffeine. Both caffeine and nicotine are addictive substances and stimulants which lead to higher stress levels. You can replace caffeine for herbal teas, water or natural fruit juices.

  • Reduce sugar intake

Sugar is hidden in many manufactured goods that we buy pre-packaged at our grocery stores. Even savoury foods contain high levels of sugar, which may lead you to feel tired and irritable, increasing your stress levels. Opt for sugar-free or alternatives like honey or stevia.

  • Physical Activity

When feeling tired, stressed or tense, try heading out for a walk. While working out or indulging in physical activity, our body lets go of dirty toxins and release chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins reduce your perception of pain. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body. Incorporating physical activity will relax your mind and help you think clearly.

  • Speak to Someone

Whether it’s with your friend, colleague, family member or a trained professional; talking can do wonders. Just talking to someone about how you feel can help you gain a different perspective on the stressful situation. Talking can also distract you from negative thoughts and release built-up tension.

Always seek professional help if you are constantly under mental pressure and experience stress or anxiety.
