The Qatar e-Nature app and web is a user-friendly interactive application, developed by Sasol (Chemical and Energy Company) in collaboration with Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC – NGO working towards environmental conservation and community education) as part of its corporate social responsibility to promote the environmental awareness among the Qatar population. The app helps the user to know the exact information on the flora and fauna, nature reserve and marine life of Qatar.
The app had its successful launching in Dec 2013, and it is available for free download on PlayStore, Apple Store, and Windows Phone Store. The app features comprehensive information highlighting Qatar’s flora and fauna, reptiles, insects, mammals and birds, marine life and natural reserves of Qatar. The application content features in Arabic and English, making it easy for people to extract the information in their preferred language. The main aim of the app is to create the environmental awareness among the community of Qatar and expats for better ecological conservation.
Since 2014, annually, Sasol, the International Integrated Chemicals, and Energy Company conduct Qatar e-Nature Schools Contest, in association with Ministry of Education and Higher Education for the primary schools in Qatar. The main aim to hold the contest is to encourage the exploration of application and create awareness of nature reserve and wildlife of Qatar. This interactive online contest aims students in Qatar, and it comprises of multiple – choice questions which help students to learn about wildlife and nature in Qatar.
The 2018 annual Qatar e-Nature School Contest concluded with an award ceremony at the Sheraton Hotel, chaired by HE Dr. Mohammed Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, with 321 participants students from 63 government schools and 44 private schools. The presence of Fatima Al Obaidli, Head of Programs and Activities at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education was another important highlight of the function along with the representatives of FEC, Sasol, families, and teachers of the participating students and the media.
The 2018 contest was an interactive competition wherein the students had to answer live questions to make points and win, which was an elimination round. The award ceremony concluded with a final round of the contest with intense competition among five finalists school.
The Lebanese school won the fierce competition bagging QAR 9,000 and the gold medal. The Markhiya Primary School for Girls winning was the runner-up, winning voucher worth QAR 6,000 and silver medal. The third place went to Mannar International School, with a cash voucher of QAR 4,500 and bronze medal. The fourth and fifth place shared by Abi Ayoub Al Anzari School and Academy International School and by winning QAR 3,000 and QAR 1,500 respectively.
Fatima Al Obaidli (head of programs and activities at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education) in her remarks put some lights on vision Qatar 2030 on the continuation of Qatar’s development by supporting modernization and safeguarding the traditions. She also said that Qatar e-Nature is in line with the initiative by offering valuable information on the modern platform, allowing everybody to have vital information on their fingertips, which can strengthen the users connected with Qatar’s nature and traditions. The Qatar e-Nature contributes their best efforts towards meeting the objective – Knowledge Based Economy.
Frahood Al Hajiri, FEC Director also quoted that e-Nature is contributing a lot towards their aim of protecting the environment of Qatar as it is raising environmental awareness among the new generation that will contribute towards a healthier and better future.
Jack Saba, General Manager of Public Affairs at Sasol Qatar said the students should know Qatar’s rich environment, and eNature Qatar is raising awareness and contributing towards their aim of an environmentally aware population.
Qatar e-Nature is a Sasol initiative as part of its CSR policy, and it is one of its kind Smartphone application and website focus on nature, environment and marine life of Qatar, offers one-touch information on your fingertip. The easy to operate interactive features in multi-language aids the community to have a better understanding of the environment and how to protect the surrounding for an eco-friendly life.
Qatar e-Nature school contests are held every year by Sasol, in collaboration with FEC and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The student communities are very much ecstatic about the social awareness programs, which are evident in the increased response and massive participation. The surge in the participants year after year ever since the launch of the e-Nature contest is indeed a positive development, how seriously are the young generation supports safeguarding the tradition and environment.
