MOPH: New Quality Inspection System On Imported Food

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) began introducing the standards of the international quality system ISO 17020 in the field of imported food inspection by educating inspectors working in different state outlets on how to use the new system.

The Food Safety Department’s technical staff conducts training in all aspects of inspection, including record verification, visual inspection, and sampling, using common work methods that follow international best practices.

The training is part of the preparation for international accreditation in this area, which ensures that the standards and methods of food inspection are in line with international standards, increasing the credibility and transparency of these procedures, which are similar to those used in developed countries.

Wasan Abdulla Al Baker, manager of the Ministry of Public Health’s Food Safety Department, said the project to gain international accreditation in the inspection of imported food using the ISO 17020 framework is part of a set of projects the ministry is working on, which includes international accreditation in local control, an online food control system, and a variety of other initiatives aimed at improving the food safety system in Qatar by using a global approach to food control to achieve the highest level of food safety possible.
