National Museum among World’s 100 Greatest Places

Time Magazine has selected the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) as one of the top visit places in the world among the 100 greatest places! The magazine highlights the relation of the architecture with the desert rose forms when sand adheres to the crystals by evaporation of salt basins.

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar Museums opened the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) to the public on 28 March 2019.

Qatar Museums’ chairperson HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani on Friday tweeted ” The National Museum of Qatar is named by Time Magazine as one of the World’s 100 Greatest Places of 2019″.

The Museum is restored by Berlin-based architecture and engineering firm ZRS Architekten Ingenieure. The important monument to Qatar’s past is now preserved here in the heart of the new NMoQ. The relation between the new building and the old building is part of creating the bridge between the past and the present as a way to “define ourselves instead of forever being defined by others” and a way of “celebrating our identity”.
