Qatar Football Association (QFA) yesterday announced the quarter-finals dates of the Amir Cup after conducting a draw ceremony on Sunday.
The matches will be held on four consecutive days. Al Arabi will face Al Ahli on March 11 at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, home of Al Duhail Club.
On March 12, Al Rayyan will take on Al Markhiya at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium home ground of Al Sadd Club. On March 13, Al Sadd will play Al Wakrah at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.
On March 14, Al Duhail will take on Al Sailiyah at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. Seven first division teams and one-second division side will be contesting the quarter-finals. Second division outfit Al Markhiya pulled off the biggest upset of this year’s Amir Cup when they defeated Al Gharafa 1-0 to make it to the last eight stages of the tournament, the only second division side to come that far.
On the other hand, a brace from Yohan Boli and goals from Khaled Muftah and Rodrigo Tabata helped Al Rayyan coast to an emphatic 4-0 win over second-division side Mesaimeer in the pre-quarter-finals.
Former champions Al Rayyan looking for their first silverware of the season have got a favourable draw avoiding Al Sadd and Al Duhail in the initial stages.
On the other hand, a potential blockbuster semi-final clash between defending champion Al Duhail and Al Sadd is also on the cards.
Al Sadd thrashed Al Kharaitiyat 3-1 to advance to the elite tournament while Al Wakrah edged Al Shahania 10-9 in sudden death to move ahead. Al Duhail, on the other hand, defeated second division side Muaither SC 4-0 to make it to the next stage and Al Sailiya defeated Umm Salal 2-1 to book a place in the quarter-finals.
